Magruder Elementary School Rocks the VotePosted on: Friday, October 21, 2016Election Day may still be more than two weeks away, but students at Magruder Elementary School (MES) have already voted - for spirit day themes. Students voted for the days that they would like to have on the spirit week calendar celebrating Bully Prevention Month. YCSD Students Participate in Yorktown DaysPosted on: Friday, October 21, 2016Students from multiple York County School Division schools participated in the ceremonies and festivities of Yorktown Day in celebration of the 235th anniversary of Cornwallis' surrender during the Revolutionary War. Bands and other student groups took part in the parade while Yorktown Middle School students performed the national anthem. In addition, students who placed among the top three entries for their level in the National Park Service's centennial anniversary art competition were invited to see their artwork on display at the Yorktown Victory Center. Homecoming HypePosted on: Friday, October 14, 2016York High School cheerleaders and football players greeted Yorktown Elementary students as they entered the building to create excitement about their upcoming homecoming game. The high school students greeted the school on the morning show and then visited each classroom to encourage students to always do their best and work hard in school. Each class received a personal invitation to attend the homecoming game on Friday night. Read more |
Fire SafetyPosted on: Friday, October 14, 2016Elementary school students across the division have been learning about fire safety from the experts as we recognize Fire Prevention Week. Fire trucks and personnel have visited various schools to demonstrate their gear and safety equipment. Bethel Manor Elementary School Random Acts of KindnessPosted on: Friday, October 14, 2016Students from Bethel Manor Elementary School (BMES) are exhibiting the true meaning of kindness. The Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) group promotes kindness throughout the corridors of the school. For the next four weeks students will have the opportunity to spread kindness. One of their first acts? The students decided to give a cupcake to the kindergarten and first grade teachers and para-educators. Read more |
Queens Lake Middle School Art AwardsPosted on: Friday, October 14, 2016Queens Lake Middle School students displayed their artwork in a juried competition during An Occasion for the Arts, an annual celebration of visual and performing arts, in Williamsburg this month. Queens Lake won first place for Youth Art and honorable mention awards went to Peter Dang, Taylor Mullins-Davis and Jason Shen. Seaford Monarchs in First GradePosted on: Friday, October 14, 2016First graders at Seaford Elementary School spent the first quarter learning about Monarch butterflies. Sabrina Phan’s class had hands-on experience with the life cycle of the butterflies, as they got to watch eggs hatch and the caterpillars grow and become beautiful Monarchs. The children even helped tag and feed more than 20 Monarchs. The students loved watching the daily changes in the classroom. The love of Monarchs has transferred over into daily student writing, reading, and some have even found their own caterpillars to watch go through the life cycle. By conducting a series of science experiments, students were able to discover the individual chemicals associated with an initial chemical reaction they observed. Read more |
Mt. Vernon Elementary School Students Create Pulley SystemPosted on: Friday, October 07, 2016Third grade students in Chelsea Hall's class at Mt. Vernon Elementary School (MVES) have been learning about simple machines. This week they worked in groups to create a pulley system to raise a flag. They were given a variety of materials, a planning and data-gathering sheet, and a deadline for completion. The final projects were then displayed in the school. Read more |
