Celebrity Art at York HighPosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Students in Juli Semanski's Foundations Art class at York High School created drawings of celebrities while studying Photorealism in this introductory art class. They selected a small (4.5" x 6") black and white photo of a celebrity and enlarged it 4 times, using the grid method. Then they used pencil to create realistic 18" x 24" drawings. The pieces were then displayed in the York High media center. Read more |
Students Count RicePosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Reading the story "The Grains of Rice" by Demi, prompted the third grade class at Grafton Bethel Elementary School to figure out how many grains of rice there would be if you doubled and kept on doubling the amount. The final amount after doubling 30 times was huge! Results of their calculations were displayed in the hallway. Read more |

Tabb Middle Students Receive Technology AwardsPosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Tabb Middle School (TMS) garnered 12 trophies at the Technology Student Association (TSA) Tidewater regional competition that was held at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Nineteen students competed in ten different team and individual events. The mission of the Technology Student Association is to foster personal growth, leadership and opportunities in technology, innovation, design and engineering. TSA is made up of 150,000 middle and high school students and 2,500 teachers and advisors in 48 state delegations. Read more |
Student Donates Tooth Fairy MoneyPosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Coventry Elementary School (CES) students are participating in “Pasta for Pennies” drive for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society sponsored by the CES Student Council Association. The homeroom with the most money after three weeks will win a lunch party catered by the Olive Garden restaurant. Rickey Barberree, first grader at CES donated his tooth fairy money to help with the drive. Read more |

Coventry Donates to HaitiPosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Coventry Elementary School (CES) students donated spare change to earthquake victims in Haiti. The students raised over $650. Students were then treated to a performance by CES teachers and staff in a CES American Idol show. Principal Cathy Cheney was judged by the “CES American Idol panel” for a chance to go to Hollywood. Read Across America at CoventryPosted on: Friday, March 19, 2010Dr. Eric Williams, YCSD superintendent, made a guest appearance on the Morning Show at Coventry Elementary School (CES) to read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day during the broadcasted morning announcements.
