Marine Science Art Contest

Emily Duke, a Marine Science student in Rachel McBride's class at Tabb High School won the Virginia Institute of Marine Science's Marine Science Day Artwork Contest. The theme this year was "sand”. Emily's design, showcasing a "sandman" was chosen from many to be printed on the t-shirts and used through out the advertisements for the event. Emily will be presented with a t-shirt sporting her artwork as well as a framed print on May 22nd, during the Marine Science Day in Gloucester Point. Read more



Book Exchange

Coventry Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss and Read Across America, by holding a book exchange. Students brought gently used books to school and exchanged with other students in their grade level. The exchange was a great success in teacher’s, Gina Rayburn and Jennifer Overbay's Kindergarten classes. Read more



Students Create Dr. Seuss Characters

During Read Across America, Coventry Elementary School held a contest for students. They were asked to create a Dr. Seuss character from recycled material. The winners are K-12: Ada Reed, Madeline Hasstedt, Nicole Baba and TJ Sullivan. Grad 3-5: Caroline Kasten, Caris King and Miroslava Marinova. Read more



Kindergarten Open House

There will be an open house for prospective kindergarten parents and students on May 6th, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Grafton Bethel Elementary School. The Kindergarten classrooms will be open and there will be an opportunity to meet with the Kindergarten teachers. Read more

YCSD School Wins Environmental Award

Queens Lake Middle School (QLMS) has been selected as a recipient of the Williamsburg Area School Environmental Award for 2010. York County will present the award at the Earth Day Business Environmental Awards brunch, on April 22 at the Historic Freight Shed in Yorktown. QLMS will receive a plaque and $100 in support of their environmental programs. Read more



Careers on Display, the Choice is Yours

With increased competition in the job market today, students need to make sure they can hit the ground running when they begin their job search. Tabb High School's Career and Technical Education Department together with Assistant Principal, Francis Dukes organized a career fair for students to gain valuable insight into just what they need to do to secure their dream job. The school hosted over twenty exhibitors from businesses from all over the peninsula in the commons area of the building during lunch blocks. Representatives from the fields of finance, engineering, information technology, education, journalism, sales and marketing, to name a few, were answering student questions and providing valuable information to help students make sound career decisions. New Tactical Simulation Club at Tabb High

There are over 50 different clubs and organizations sponsored for student participation at Tabb High School (THS). New this year to THS is the WWII Tactical Simulation Club. Sponsored by Mark Pingley, the club meets every Thursday after school in room 121. All interested students are invited to participate and stretch their minds around the events surrounding WWII and other tactical conflicts. Read more
