Tabb Middle Math Counts Team Places 1stPosted on: Thursday, March 01, 2012Tabb Middle School (TMS) students in grades 6-8 participated in the Peninsula Chapter Math Counts competition on February 11 at NASA against eight other teams. TMS's Math Counts team of four won first place. All the students participated in the individual competition. Tabb Middle's Alex Zhou, an 8th grader came in 2nd overall. Five of our individual competitors ranked in the top 14, out of approximately 70 competitors. Read more |

School Board Members Sign Code of ConductPosted on: Thursday, March 01, 2012On Monday evening, February 27th, at the York County School Division School Board Meeting at York Hall, all five of the York County School Board Members signed the VSBA Code of Conduct for School Board Members. The document included twelve statements that describe the importance of demonstrating appropriate behavior and conduct as a Public School Board Member. Abraham Lincoln (aka first grade teacher, Phil Miller)Posted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012Phillip Miller, first grade teacher, stayed home and rested today and instead sent Abraham Lincoln to his class at Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES). Hero PacksPosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012Each child of the Parent Away group at Mt. Vernon Elementary School (MVES) received a Hero Pack from Virginia Operation Military Kids this January. The Hero Packs were backpacks filled with exciting items: digital cameras, photo albums, stickers, tattoos and journals for children to enjoy during their parents deployment. Also inside the Hero Pack was a thank-you letter from a non-military youth or community member to acknowledge the student’s strength and sacrifice. Students were overjoyed and thankful to receive the Hero Packs and read each of the touching letters. Read more |
"Great American Cleanup" at Grafton MiddlePosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012Students from Grafton Middle School (GMS) participated in the Great American Cleanup as part of its community improvement program. A rain garden is planned for the site to keep polluted runoff from a bus parking lot from reaching the Chesapeake Bay Estuary. Students participating include Mike Drejza, Emily Stumpo, Abigail Wilsey, Madison Baskin, Kristen D’Imperio and Kessler McBee. Read more |
Oney Judge visits Grafton Bethel ElementaryPosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012Students at Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES) were introduced to Oney Judge, who was the enslaved, personal maidservant to Martha Washington. Miss Judge escaped and sought her freedom just before the end of Washington's second term. Students met an elderly Oney Judge as she talked about her life with the Washingtons, her home and her upbringing. The students learned about Oney Judge's struggle with the Washingtons to remain free, and her later life as a fugitive who lived free. Read more |
100 Days of School, 100 Years YoungPosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012Maryann Jacobson’s first grade class at Mt. Vernon Elementary School (MVES) dressed up as 100-year-olds to celebrate the 100th day of school. Other activities included reading 100 books, making necklaces with 100 fruit loops, and measuring with 100 cubes. Read more |
