On Saturday, March 10, the 61st annual regional Tidewater Science and Engineering Fair was held at Old Dominion University’s Webb Center in Norfolk, VA, where over 250 projects competed under the direction of 180 judges from the local professional community. An estimated $6000 in prize money was awarded and over 50 students were nominated to compete in future events. Over 50 projects were entered by York County School Division (YCSD) students. Of those, 27 YCSD students won awards; ten in the junior division and seventeen in the senior division. Of those 27 winners, two YCSD students captured the First and Second place grand prizes. Andrew Luo of York High School won first grand prize and Radha Venkatesan of Grafton High School won second grand prize. Both Luo and Venkatesan will represent YCSD at the International Science and Engineering Fair held in Pittsburg, PA in May on an all expenses paid trip. Additionally, ten YCSD senior division projects qualified to compete at the VA State Science and Engineering Fair to be held at Old Dominion University in April and thirty two YCSD projects received special awards.
