VDOE School Report Card SurveyPosted on: Friday, March 15, 2013The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is partnering with the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) to redesign VDOE’s online School Report Cards for public schools, school divisions, and the state. The views of stakeholders and other report card users are critical to the success of this project. The middle school students worked in teams to design and create a three-dimensional paper sculpture. Project requirements included using paper and line to demonstrate the elements of art and principles of design such as shape, repetition, variety, pattern, contrast, and value. Read more |

YMS 6th Grade Studies Child Labor IssuesPosted on: Friday, March 15, 2013Students in Mrs. Marge Correll's 6th grade class at Yorktown Middle School extended their country research by exploring the issue of child labor. Students looked for data about the problem in various countries, information about the type of labor children are engaged in, and information about what is being done to correct the problem. The experience was an eye-opener for these 6th graders. The students collaboratively created a banner as a result of their research. Read more |
State PTA Reflections AwardsPosted on: Friday, March 15, 2013Congratulations to the following York County students who placed at the State level in the PTA Reflections Contest: Outstanding Interpretation in Music: Christine Gyure (Tabb Elementary), Award of Excellence in Film: Julia Hernandez (Bruton High), and Award of Merit in Dance: Sydney Holbrook (Tabb Elementary). YCSD Elementary Schools Earn State AwardsPosted on: Friday, March 15, 2013Congratulations to Coventry Elementary School and Mt. Vernon Elementary School for being recognized by the Virginia Board of Education and Governor McDonnell in the 2013 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards for advanced learning and achievement. Both schools earned the 2013 Virginia Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award. The award was bestowed upon 98 schools that met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board. Read more |

Tabb Middle School Raises Fund for the Police Unity TourPosted on: Friday, March 08, 2013On Friday, March 1, 2013, students and teachers at Tabb Middle School raised funds for the Police Unity Tour by wearing "Caps for Cops". The Tabb Middle School community raised over $250 for the tour which has a goal to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. Read more |
