YES Penny Harvest to Benefit Lackey Free ClinicPosted On: 11/2/2012 |
From October 22nd to October 26th, students at Yorktown Elementary Math Science Technology Magnet School competed against each other collecting pennies to benefit the Lackey Free Clinic in Yorktown. All pennies collected counted for a grade level's total, while silver coins and bills counted against a designated grade. The grade level in first place each day was usually targeted by other grades in a healthy competition to count donated money against the leader. By Friday morning, the little red wagon was loaded to be taken to the bank. Yorktown Elementary PTA reported late Friday that the final total, $1,924.33, surpassed last year's collection of $1,700. First grade came in first, followed by 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and kindergarten in that order. This fourth Annual Penny Harvest is part of the ongoing community service efforts of the YES PTA. |
