BAE Systems Sponsorship - 2011-12 Robotics TeamPosted On: 6/23/2011 |
During the 6th grade spirit rally, Michael Archuleta of BAE Systems presented a check to Tabb Middle School (TMS) in the amount of $2,500. The sponsorship supports their 2nd year of participation in the Virginia FIRST Lego League program. BAE Systems sponsored the team last year as well. A TMS teacher who coaches one of the robotics teams explained, "We had a successful first year of competition. We generated so much interest that we were able to form 2 teams. We met as a team twice per week to prepare for the regional competition in early November. The season goes very quickly and there was much to be done. We had a great showing at the competition and did very well against some veteran teams. Now that we know what to expect and the students are familiar with the robots and programming next year should be even better. We will start meeting again in early September. Thank you for supporting our program!"
FIRST Lego League (FLL) students solve real-world engineering challenges and develop important life skills. FLL provides students with an opportunity to challenge their math and science skills in an internationally recognized competitive environment that combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. TMS’s FLL team sponsor, a division of BAE Systems Support Solutions, is headquartered in Hampton, VA.
