US News & World Report Best Elementary and Middle Schools

The York County School Division is well represented in a newly released statewide ranking of public elementary and middle schools. The US News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, named the 2024 Best Elementary and Middle Schools by state.

All 14 YCSD elementary and middle schools are in the top 15% of public schools statewide, with four schools in the top 20 overall. The report analyzed more than 600 public middle schools in Virginia, ranking Tabb Middle at #10 and Grafton Middle at #16. At the elementary level, Mt. Vernon Elementary is listed as the 13th best elementary school out of more than 1,200 public elementary schools, with Dare Elementary close behind at #15.

According to U.S. News & World Report, these new rankings focused on state assessments of students during the 2020-21 school year, measuring students who were proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts.
