Posted On: 9/23/2016

Karley Haskiell, a seventh grade Yorktown Middle School (YMS) student, was recently selected as a semifinalist in the 2106 Broadcom MASTERS national middle school science and engineering competition — the nation's most prestigious Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) competition for middle school students.

Society for Science & the Public and Broadcom Foundation announced that Haskiell was selected for this honor from a pool of more than 6,000 nominees from affiliated science fairs across the United States. Of the 300 semifinalists representing 37 states, 15 were selected from Virginia. Haskiell’s, Let It Grow! Capitalizing On Soil Capillarity!, was the only Hampton Roads area project recognized as a semifinalist entry.
