Yorktown Elementary Hosts Annual Chess Tournament

Yorktown Elementary School (YES) students participated in the Annual Chess Tournament one Saturday in January. Twelve members of the Chess Enrichment Club, from grades 3-5, competed against their peers in a game that helps students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Tom Philipoom, club sponsor, ensured that the guidelines and procedures used during competitive chess tournaments were followed by students. The club is one of the highest sought-after school activities for YES students.
