Pen Pals from Mt. Vernon Elementary

Mrs. Bahar's second grade class at Mt. Vernon Elementary School wanted to let senior citizens know that they are valued and deserve to be honored for their experience and wisdom. The students became pen pals with residents of the Chesapeake Retirement Center. The children exchanged letters and cards throughout the year. Through their writing, they formed strong relationships. On June 3, students visited the residents of the Chesapeake Retirement Center. The bond between the children and the seniors was instantaneous! They were treated to refreshments as they talked together, and were given a tour of the facility.
