Tabb DECA Is Hats Off for Ellie's Hats Campaign

Posted On: 5/8/2015

In the spring of 2013, a little girl named Ellie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. By the time she started kindergarten in the fall, she had lost most of her hair and was wearing hats to school every day. Ellie's Hats was born after one of her teachers noticed how much cheer and individuality the hats brought to Ellie. He wanted to share that feeling with other children who suffered from childhood cancer and to also raise awareness.

This year's Virginia DECA State Community Service Campaign is the support of the Ellie's Hats. Tabb High School DECA took up the cause this spring after attending Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference and discovering that many organizations provide support during the fall and winter months but few lend a hand during the spring and summer.

Co-chairs Sarah Lewis and Erica Rodgers organized the collection, sorting and shipping new and gently used hats for the Tabb High School DECA Ellie's Hats Campaign.
