Monarch Madness

Posted On: 10/25/2013

Monarch habitats at all ten York County School Division elementary schools have become a beautiful breeding ground for the monarch butterfly. More than 300 Monarch caterpillars have been collected and observed in dozens of elementary classrooms throughout the division. Students have observed the Monarchs develop through their various life cycle stages. Once a Monarch reaches the butterfly stage, it is tagged and released. These butterflies will migrate to Mexico where they will hibernate before another long journey to the United States in the spring. Thank you to all the teachers, students, and volunteers for their efforts in restoring the Monarch population.
