Internet Safety PresentationPosted On: 10/25/2013 |
More than 70 people attended an Internet Safety Forum at York High School (YHS) this week. Special Agent Paula Barrows, a member of the FBI’s Innocent Images Task Force, led the presentation for parents and students. The task force was created in the wake of a 1993 case in Maryland in which a 12-year-old boy went missing after developing an online relationship with an adult. Barrows demonstrated how quickly a child predator can learn private details about children, such as what school they attend and where they live, from what seem to be innocent posts in chat rooms or social media sites. Her advice to parents is to never allow teenagers or children to go online without adult supervision. |
