D.A.R.E./Fire Fest Health Fair

The annual D.A.R.E./Fire Fest Health Fair hosted by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will be held Saturday, March 3 from 10a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Grafton School Complex. This indoor event will feature rides, games, law enforcement & fire safety demonstrations and children’s activities. “Ride All Day” tickets are $5 each or wear your DARE or Drug Free T-Shirt and receive $2 off your ticket. Queens Lake Middle Spelling Bee

Darleen hart from Bruton High School (BHS) announced the spelling words to the Queens Lake Middle School (QLMS) participating students. The top five spellers were Kei'Liah Taylor, Daniel Charlier, Aimee Nazario-Ovalle, Jonah Trani and Jimmy McKenzie. These students will advance to the Tidewater Regional Bee in March. Jonah Trani was the first place winner. Read more

Friendship and Fun in First Grade

First Graders at Seaford Elementary School (SES) celebrate Valentine's Day! Working together with friends they turned the holiday into productive centers. Graphing and adding valentine candy, writing valentines, and reading with friends, were all activities of the day. The students also created heart valentines to share with their families. Tabb Middle is Building a School - Brick by Brick

Education is alive and well at Tabb Middle School (TMS) and we want to spread the power of learning to others! Tabb Middle School's (TMS) Builders Club is working hard to raise money to build a school in Sierra Leon. Partnering up with the organization, Free the Children, TMS club members sponsored a Valentine's Dance to spread the word of reaching out to others and to add to their goal of $8400. Just think, a short time ago, the children of Sierra Leon made up a children's army in a country riddled with civil war. Soon and with hard work from the Builders Club, they and their village will have the gift of education. Brick by brick, this school will become a reality! Read more

Tabb High School's (THS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) department kicked off CTE Week with a presentation from Robin Epps from ECPI University. A now retired Army officer, Ms. Robin (as the students refer to her) provided the students with valuable career opportunity information and suggested career paths to secure their idea job. Community Quilt

Elizabeth Beach's first grade class at Seaford Elementary School (SES) worked with community volunteer, Julie Jensen, to create a class quilt. The quilt represents a cross curriculum review. The students were presented with quilts that dated back 100 years. The students were able to tie in their social studies lesson on past, present and future. The students discussed how quilts were made in the past and how quilts can be handed down through generations. The class had just completed reading a story about family traditions in which making quilts was one of the traditions. Julie helped the students design quilt squares to represent themselves and their classroom and will piece the quilt together to present to the class. Read more

Donna Manicone's first grade class at Seaford Elementary School (SES) celebrated the 100th Day of School on February 13. The students celebrated the 100th day by turning "100 days of school" into "100 days of cool"! Read more



New National Board Certified Teacher at Grafton High

The Southeastern Virginia National Board Certified Teacher Regional Network 2012 NBCT Recognition Reception was held at Virginia Wesleyan College, Friday, February 3. Dr. Kipp Rogers, Ida Ostrowski and Grafton High School’s Nationally Certified teachers, Amy Brown and Mary Flaherty-Nobile attended to support our newest Nationally Certified Teacher, Susan Huffines.
