Grafton Middle Builds BridgesPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012During Technology Systems class at Grafton Middle School (GMS), students Pierce Keesee and Charles Hoepfner, designed and built a bridge out of balsa wood. The students then tested the amount of force the bridge can withstand using a structure tester and calibrating the pounds of pressure using the computer. These students' bridge was able to withstand the most pressure out of the other bridges from the class. Read more |

Diversity is...? Reflections Winners AnnouncedPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012A special thank you to all of the participants in the 2011-2012 Reflections contest this year. This competition's theme was "Diversity is." The annual contest is sponsored by the York County Council PTA/PTSA in conjunction with the National PTA. Students throughout the York County School Division submitted original entries at their school level in the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film/Video Production, Musical Composition, Literature, Photography and Visual Arts. Each category is broken down into four divisions of competition - Primary (Preschool - grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Middle (Grades 6-8) and Senior (grades 9-12). All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, mastery of the medium and interpretation of the theme. Read more |

Seaford Elementary First Graders Take A Bite Out of LearningPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012Wrapping up their unit on maps, first graders at Seaford Elementary School make an edible project. Using what they learned about cardinal directions, map keys and symbols, students created an edible map. When the map made of tortillas, peanut butter, chocolate and other edible items were complete - the students were able to taste them! Read more |

YCSD Clerk and Deputy Clerk of Board Take OathPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012York County School Division staff gathered in the lobby of the School Board Office on February 3, 2012 in support of their fellow colleagues. Kristen Nelson, Deputy Clerk of York County-Poquoson Circuit Court, administered the oath of office to Sandra Ford, Clerk of the Board, and Carl L. James, Ed.D., Deputy Clerk of the Board. The Clerk and Deputy Clerk were appointed for a one year term at the School Board Annual Organizational Meeting in January. Ms. Ford holds the position of Secretary to the Superintendent and Dr. James serves as the Chief Operations Officer for York County School Division. Read more |
Pancake BreakfastPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012Come out and support the Yorktown Middle School (YMS) Choral department with all you can eat pancakes! The YMS Choral Connection Booster Club is sponsoring a pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 17 in the YMS Cafeteria from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cost is $5 for all you can eat pancakes, two years of age and older. Yorktown Middle Talent ShowPosted on: Monday, February 06, 2012The Yorktown Middle School (YMS) talent show will be held this Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m. in the YMS Auditorium. Cost to attend is $5 per person with proceeds benefitting the YMS Choral Connection Booster Club. The Choral Connect will be sponsor student chorus members for their spring competition.
