Yorktown Elementary Library MakeoverPosted on: Friday, September 14, 2012Yorktown Elementary Math Science Technology Magnet School welcomed students for the 2012-2013 school year with a beautifully decorated and artistically inspired library. PTA parent, Natalie Hall, had a vision of a welcoming atmosphere for the YES library. With her BFA degree in Interior Design from VCU, she sketched and painted her design ideas. Her design process included space planning, sewing colorful striped canopy type awnings, large throw pillows, inspirational phrases, and whimsical characters. With help from other PTA parents, the project was completed in one month. Read more |
Cheering for Back to School Clothing DrivePosted on: Friday, September 14, 2012The Tabb High School Sideline Cheerleaders supported the Grafton Baptist Church's clothing and school supply drive by collecting school clothes for those in need. Ninety-nine children received backpacks with school supplies and were able to pick out clothing at the church on August 25th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Read more |
YCSD's Got TalentPosted on: Friday, September 14, 2012A York County School Division student was recently honored through the National PTA Reflections contest. Christopher Spells, representing Queens Lake Middle School, earned an Award of Merit in the Dance Choreography category for his entry, The Unique differences of others. Through Reflections, PTA recognizes students for their artistic efforts at local, regional, state and national levels. The National PTA Reflections Awards include: Outstanding Interpretation Awards: Presented to one student in each arts category and the Special Artist Division for best theme interpretation. Awards of Excellence: Presented to the top three scores for each arts category in each grade division. In 2012, PTA recognized 72 students with Awards of Excellence. Tabb Freshman Challenged to Believe In YouPosted on: Friday, September 14, 2012Herff Jones representative Chris Hutto helped welcome the Freshman Class to Tabb High during their first class meeting on September 5th in the Tabb High Auditorium. The “Believe In You. Graduate,” is a program developed by Herff Jones designed to encourage commitment, self-esteem and instill the importance of graduating on-time as a class. Freshman class members signed the banner in the commons as they exited their meeting acknowledging their commitment to the program and their desire to graduate on-time with their class. Read more |
Yorktown Elementary School Assist Waters Edge Church "Stuff the Bus" ProjectPosted on: Friday, September 14, 2012Waters Edge Church with campuses in Yorktown and Hampton embarked on a huge “Stuff the Bus” Project during the past four weeks. On Monday, August 27, 2012 the bus pulled up in front of Yorktown Elementary Math Science Technology Magnet School where PTA volunteers and students from Yorktown Elementary and Yorktown Middle Schools emptied the STUFFED bus. After equally dividing the school supplies in the school cafeteria all items will be equally distributed to all elementary, middle and high schools in York County. The Competition is based upon students' performance on the PSAT test during junior year. Tabb High School Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence in EducationPosted on: Friday, August 31, 2012Tabb High School (THS) kicks off its 40th year of operation with a welcome back to school birthday celebration breakfast sponsored by the THS PTSA. Faculty and staff were joined by faculty and student alumni for the breakfast feast organized by the PTSA Hospitality Chair Laura Kelly and her team Deni Lewis and Liz Bryant.
