Seaford Kindergarteners Make Healthy ChoicesPosted on: Thursday, October 11, 2012Students in Mrs. Clark's Kindergarten class enjoy buying lunch in the cafeteria. Students are allowed to choose multiple fruits and vegetables. Yorktown Elementary PatriotismPosted on: Thursday, October 11, 2012First graders at Yorktown Elementary Math Science Technology Magnet School have been engaged in learning about the patriotic symbols of the United States. Each student decorated the American flag, designed a foldable Washington Monument, dressed in the crown and carried the torch of the Statue of Liberty, made and displayed the American Bald Eagle and the Liberty Bell. Students in Mrs. Cagle’s first grade class enjoyed bringing this social studies SOL to life by proudly displaying some of their favorite symbols of the United States. Read more |

Their pen-pals attend Jules Valles a high school near Toulouse, France. The students are excited to see their pen-pals via video and learn more about French culture. Read more |

Johnny Appleseed visits Mr. Miller's ClassPosted on: Thursday, October 11, 2012Johnny Appleseed visited Mr. Miller's class at Grafton Bethel Elementary School and engaged the students in many different apple activities. Mr. Appleseed showed students how to peel apples with a mechanical peeler and helped the students to cook applesauce. Parents provided other apple treats and students graphed their favorite color of apple. Read more |

The event highlighted innovations by educators and entrepreneurs relating to education and open data. Williams described how York County’s instructional initiatives, policies, and technology infrastructure support leveraging technology to improve student achievement. Other speakers included U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement at the U.S. Department of Education Jim Shelton, as well as several CEOs. Tabb DECA Prepare for a Busy YearPosted on: Thursday, October 11, 2012Members of the Tabb High School DECA chapter attended the festivities surrounding DECA Day at the Virginia State Fair on Friday, October 5, 2012. Students visited the exhibitors to collect resource information that they will use in the completion of competitive event manuals and were provided the opportunity to participate in practice competitive role-play scenarios. The Tabb DECA Executive Board attended the Fall Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach on Monday October 1, 2012. Board members participated in leadership, teambuilding and competitive events workshops designed to help them discover the best methods to employ to ensure success in District, State and National competition. YHS Student Featured on NPRPosted on: Friday, October 05, 2012York High School student, William Hume, will be featured on the National Public Radio show, "From the Top," on WHRO this Saturday October 6, 2012. A junior at YHS, Hume has played piano for over 9 years and was selected last January for this honor, which showcases young musicians from around the country.
