Eligible employees may elect to participate in medical, dental, optional group life or legal insurances, and health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts.

The enrollment period to make benefit selections for coverage is within the first 31 days of employment. No elections will be allowed for health, dental, or legal insurances, flexible spending accounts or premium conversion options after this date unless a qualifying event has occurred or during open enrollment. Please fill out the following forms and return to the Benefits Department at the York County School Board Office within your eligibility period if you are electing coverage.

Open Enrollment

The open enrollment period is the opportunity for current YCSD employees who choose to enroll in our benefits program, to make benefit selections or changes for coverage. Open enrollment is scheduled for October 1-31, 2022. Please note 11:59 PM on October 31, 2022 is the deadline for current employees to enroll, add or remove dependents; make changes to Health, Dental, and Legal Resources Insurance and Premium Conversion elections; and to enroll in Flexible Spending Accounts. No changes will be allowed after this date unless a qualifying event has occurred. Open enrollment is the one time of the year when you may change coverage from one plan to another, and add or remove dependents based simply on your needs or preferences. Coverage elections or changes made during open enrollment are effective January 1, 2023.

A new enrollment application is required each year for employees who desire to participate in Health Care and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts.

IMPORTANT NOTE: York County School Division will no longer offer the Optima POS15/35 health insurance plan beginning January 1, 2023. If you are currently enrolled in the Optima POS15/35 plan you will be automatically switched to the Optima POS250/20 plan unless you choose to enroll in the POS Equity 3000 plan or cancel coverage.

All Full-Time Employees are automatically enrolled in the Virginia Retirement System, your provider for retirement, 457 Deferred Compensation, life insurance and optional group life insurance. Further information on your benefits can be obtained from the VRS Reference Guide or the Virginia Retirement System website. Individual account information can be accessed through MyVRS by establishing a username and password.

Voluntary Benefits:

In addition, employees may choose to participate in voluntary benefits such as retirement savings plans - tax-sheltered annuities and supplemental insurance plans through Aflac. These enrollment elections can be made throughout the year.
