Health Insurance: An affordable HMO plan and flexible PPO plan. YCSD pays most of the cost of either plan. Non-smoker rates available.
Dental: A separate dental plan is available. Part of an employee's premium is paid by the School Board.
Flexible Spending Accounts: The Dependent Care option is offered (to $5k/yr) and the Health Care option (to $2.5K/yr). These pre-tax features are money savings. Check the status of an account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over the Internet.
Retirement: Employees participate in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).
Sick Leave: Employees earn one day per month of service. Part time employees receive pro-rata leave.
Personal Leave: Employees have three personal days per year. Up to five days may be accumulated with any remaining personal leave being converted to sick leave.
Worker's Compensation: Employees are insured for all medical expenses for occupational related diseases or injury. Additionally, employees are compensated for two-thirds of their regular salary, after seven days, up to a certain maximum.
Basic Group Life Insurance: Offered at twice the salary; no cost to the employee, with Accidental Death and Dismemberment features included.
Low cost Optional Life Insurance: guaranteed to the employee within 31 days after employment - for spouse and/or children.
Tax Sheltered Annuities (403b plan): Available to supplement retirement. Choice of at least six firms with reduced taxes. Money grows at compound interest until retirement.
Optional Benefits: Long-term and short-term disability policies; small whole life policies; individual benefit counseling at time of open enrollment, payroll allotments to choice of two local credit unions, and others.
Premium Conversion: A pre-tax plan that permits the health premium payment to receive the most favorable tax treatment.
